Commission’s Democrats “tramp on the will of the voters”

Those aren’t just our words, they’re the words of the Commercial Appeal. Yes, even the morning publication recognized the outrageousness of appointing a Democrat to a district whose voters are up to 80% Republican.

Shortly before 4pm, in a 7-5 vote, the Shelby County Commission voted to impose former Democrat Party Chairman Matt Kuhn on thousands of citizens who specifically voted against his liberal ideology. Commissioner Joe Ford, the most senior member of the body, should be commended for voting for Republican Tommy Hart until he realized that his party-mates could not be satisfied with choosing a true representative of the district.

So how do we even the score?
We Fight Back.

The Democrats are counting on your apathy. Its not just that they don’t care about your vote, they think that you don’t care about your vote — and thus won’t lift a finger to stop them from disenfranchising you.

We can’t let them get away with this without a fight.

One of the most important elections in our county’s history will be held in August 2010. Not only will we have to fight to reclaim District 4, we will have to restore and retain honest and competent leadership in county-wide offices. Democratic Commission Chairman Diedre Malone is rumored to be a candidate for County Mayor — she voted for Mr. Kuhn in the final round and District 4 voters should not forget what she did today. These elections traditionally have lower overall turnout, which means that the efforts of our organization to get Republicans to show up at the polls are that much more important.
