Trustee Remembered
On Saturday, June 14, 2008, the Shelby County Young Republican Club of Memphis hosted the 19th annual Bob Patterson Picnic at Kirby Farms in Memory of Former County Trustee Bob Patterson. Mrs. Virginia Patterson attended the picnic as an honored guest and elected officials, Chris Turner, Bills Gibbons, Jimmy Moore, Bill Boyd, Joyce Avery, Brian Kelsey as well as several candidates and members of Republican clubs across Shelby County came out to remember this faithful civil servant.
After a delicious lunch of barbeque and beans provided by the Not Ready for Swine Time Porkers, guests enjoyed dessert and watermelon, while learning about the longstanding contributions of Bob Patterson.
Abigail Braddock, Chairman of the Shelby County Young Republicans, said that Bob Patterson had a tremendous impact on the SCYR club through his contributions of encouragement, advice and leadership, which is one reason the club wanted to honor him with the continuation of this special event. Kelly Gilmer, former Shelby County Young Republicans Chairman, added to the praise,testifying to Patterson’s tremendous impact on his life, which led him to further involvement within the party.
Entertainment at the picnic was provided by singer, Angie Merryman, who provided opportunities for karyoke, and children enjoyed facepainting by Ms. Patches. 
The successful event raised money for the Exchange Family Club Center, one of Bob Patterson’s favorite charities. The Young Republicans also honored Mrs. Virginia Patterson with a collection of commemorative pictures. The picnic’s weather reflected the warm memories that people shared of Bob Patterson and will be continued as a tradition held in his honor.
