Ray Butler Nominated for County Trustee
At a Convention Meeting held last Thursday night at Clark Tower, the Republican Party nominated Ray Butler as its candidate for County Trustee in the August 7, 2008 Special Election. The Election is occurring due to the death of long-time Republican County Trustee Bob Patterson, who suffered a heart attack in January. Butler received the overwhelming recommendation of the Party’s Candidate Recruitment Committee and secured the nomination after receiving 72% on the first round of voting over two other candidates.
Butler, 56, is a well-respected Certified Public Accountant who has over 30 years of management experience. He has served as the personnel manager for a Fortune 500 company, managing partner of a local CPA firm, Director for a national CPA firm, and the CEO and CFO of a local manufacturer that employed 97 people. He is a board member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants and holds a B.A. from the University of Memphis.
Not only is Butler well-qualified to be the Trustee, he was also Mr. Patterson’s close confidant and provided professional advice to him on numerous occasions. Ray was essentially the “Trustee’s trustee”, serving as County Trustee Bob Patterson’s campaign treasurer.
Republican Party Chairman Bill Giannini said “We searched for the most qualified and competent person in the county to handle the County finances, and we nominated him last night. Ray will continue Bob Patterson’s extraordinary legacy of service to the people of Shelby County.”
Butler’s nomination completes the Republican ticket for the August County election, which also includes re-electing Chris Turner as General Sessions Court Clerk and electing Bill Giannini as Property Assessor.
