Robin L. Beard died from a brain tumor on Saturday in South Carolina. Beard represented Tennessee’s sixth (now seventh) Congressional District from 1973-1983. Beard, born in Knoxville, grew up in Nashville, and moved to Somerville where he ran for Congress. After an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate in 1982, he was appointed to be NATO Deputy-Secretary General. Our “Good man in Congress” was a friend of the Shelby County Republican Party and will be missed. Services will be held in Isle of Palms, South Carolina on Thursday.
