Fmr. Senator Fred Thompson forms Presidential Exploratory Committee

Fred ThompsonFormer Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson has filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to set up a “testing the waters” committee for running for the Republican Presidential Nomination.  Thompson served our state in the U.S. Senate from 1995–2003.

Many Republican officials from around the nation have expressed their support for Thompson even before this announcement.  These include fmr. Georgia Senator Mack Mattingly, Pennsylvania House Speaker Denny O’Brien, Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, and our own Congressman Marsha Blackburn.  Thompson’s Memphis roots run deep – he earned his undergraduate degree from Memphis State (now the University of Memphis).  Click “more” for links to news articles about this development.
