Mary Ann McNeil Nominated for State Senate

Congratulations to Mary Ann McNeil, who was elected to be the Republican nominee for the District 33 State Senate seat vacated by Roscoe Dixon. Mary Ann will face Kathryn Bowers, who doubles as the Chairman of the local Democrat Party, in the special General election on May 10.

Bill Giannini, Chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party said “On behalf of all Shelby County Republicans, we congratulate Mary Ann McNeil on her victory tonight. She will represent Republicans proudly and we look forward to supporting her in her campaign.

Kathryn Bowers has the worst voting record for small business in the entire State House. She opposes TennCare reform and Social Security reform.

McNeil is a proven administrator who holds a masters degree in education from the University of Memphis. Her career in teaching in both city and county schools culminated in her role as Principal at Crosswind Elementary in Collierville where she spent 10 years. As such she received the PTA’s Tennessee Outstanding Principal Award in 2003 and the Life Achievement Award from the national PTA. Since retiring she has worked as a school improvement consultant with the Tennessee Department of Education. As a dedicated leader, McNeil has served as a member of the Collierville Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Collierville, the Brooks Museum League, Republican Women of Purpose, the Shelby County Education Association.

Mary Ann McNeil supports the safeguarding and improvement of our school systems through special school district legislation, the Senior Citizens’ Homestead property tax relief initiative, and Tenn-Care reform. McNeil opposes consolidation, the Memphis Payroll Tax and the income tax. Mary Ann McNeil is a proven administrator and dedicated leader uniquely qualified to serve as District 33.
