Alexander: Military and Overseas Absentee Ballots MUST be Counted

As we celebrate our country’s independence on July 4th, we should especially honor the men and women in uniform who work every day to protect the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, including our right to elect our own leaders and choose the direction of our country.

On Saturday, June 14, 2008, the Shelby County Young Republican Club of Memphis hosted the 19th annual Bob Patterson Picnic at Kirby Farms in Memory of Former County Trustee Bob Patterson. Mrs. Virginia Patterson attended the picnic as an honored guest and elected officials, Chris Turner, Bills Gibbons, Jimmy Moore, Bill Boyd, Joyce Avery, Brian Kelsey as well as several candidates and members of Republican clubs across Shelby County came out to remember this faithful civil servant.
At a bipartisan TVA forum on gas prices today, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) said that within five years, tens of thousands of Tennesseans could be driving to work in electric cars and trucks that plug into standard electric wall outlets at a fuel cost of a dollar or two per charge. He said that TVA has “the equivalent of several power plants” of unused electric capacity at night to supply cheap power and that at least four major automobile companies will have electric vehicles on the market by 2010.
