Convention 09

Caucuses Rescheduled for March 22

Every two years, the Republican Party in Shelby County must “reorganize”, meeting to elect new officers for the upcoming term.   Our Party is officially chartered by the Tennessee Republican Party which specifies that we must hold Caucuses and a Convention.   The Caucuses and Convention is a very important part of your responsibility as a voter and active Republican in Shelby County.

Any Republican in Shelby County, defined as a bona-fide Republican, who is a registered voter may participate in the Caucuses or even get elected to represent their precinct at the Convention.

  • Sunday, March 22
  • Houston High School Auditorium, 9755 Wolf River Blvd.

Precinct Caucuses - 2:00pm

Look up your precinct

At the Precinct Caucus, you will break up into meetings for each of Shelby County’s 270 precincts.  You may have thirty neighbors show up from your precinct, or it may just be you – in either case you will hold a meeting to elect the delegate(s) (and alternate-delegates) for the party convention.  Usually these meetings just take a few minutes to complete and the proper forms are provided to you to fill out and turn back in that night.
The number of delegates that you can elect is determined by how many votes that John McCain and Sarah Palin received in your precinct.  It is very important that as many precincts as possible are represented at the Caucuses, so make every effort to be present and represent your neighborhood!

Party Convention - 3:00pm

(or after the Contest/Credentials Committee finishes its post-Caucus report, no earlier than 3:00pm)

At the Party Convention, the delegates elected from each Precinct will meet together to elect the Chairman, Vice-Chairs, Executive Committee, and Steering Committee of the Republican Party of Shelby County.   It is very important that as many precincts as possible are represented at the Convention.  This process usually takes a little over an hour to complete.
